If you’re arriving in Orkney on the NorthLink ferry from Scrabster to Stromness…
- Drive off the ferry, turn right onto Ferry Road
- Continue to the roundabout and go straight ahead on the A965 for 1 mile
- Turn left for Birsay (A966) and, after 3 miles, continue sharp right to Birsay (A967)
- Continue for 4 miles and then turn left at the sign for Quoyloo.
Unigar Cottages are 1 mile further on, on the right-hand side of the road and before you come to the Orkney Brewery.
If you’re arriving in Orkney on the NorthLink ferry into Kirkwall from Aberdeen or Shetland…
- Drive off the ferry and, at the end of the road leading through the harbour, turn right onto the slip road
- Turn right at the junction onto the A965 Stromness
- Go through the village of Finstown
- After 0.6 miles turn right for Dounby A986
- Drive through Dounby village and take the 3rd left Swartland Road. Drive 2 miles
- Turn left at junction A965 Stromness
- Continue for 0.4 miles and then turn right
- Unigar Cottages is 1 mile on the right
from Pentland Ferries St Margaret’s Hope
- Drive off the ferry and take the A961 to Kirkwall after approx. 15 miles
- After reaching the outskirts of Kirkwall, drive past Highland Park Distillery and follow the road as it turns left, down the hill towards the Balfour Hospital.
- Turn right at the roundabout near the hospital and continue until the next roundabout.
- Take 1st left; continue to the next roundabout at the filling station
- Take 1st left onto the A965 to Stromness
- Go through the village of Finstown and, after 0.6 miles, turn right for Dounby A986
- Drive through Dounby village and take the 3rd left onto Swartland Road
Drive for 2 miles and turn left at junction A965 for Stromness
- Continue for 0.4 miles, then turn right
- Unigar Cottages is 1 mile on the right
